‘JOBA’ A new faith-based movie hits Nigerian cinema

Joba, a new Nollywood faith-based film by Biodun Stephen, has been released in cinemas nationwide.

The movie brings an interesting twist to the faith-based genre which is fast making a return to Nigeria cinemas after years of absence.

Joba captures the travails of a young Christian couple battling between their marriage and faith. Their faith is tried when all fingers point to the husband as the cause of their troubles.

The lead cast, Blossom Chukwujekwu, Enado Odigie, and Chris Iheuwa all attended the film’s media screening which held at the Genesis Cinemas, Maryland Mall, Lagos over the weekend.

Other celebrities present were Bisola Aiyeola, Woli Arole, Gospel Singer Psalmos, and Senior Pastor of Christ Livingspring Apostolic Church (CLAM) Wole Oladiyun, among others.

The producer said the storyline would appeal to the average Nigerian couple and family irrespective of their religious leanings.

She said, “It connects the viewers to events in their personal lives that question their beliefs, self-esteem, and tenacity. The movie plunges its audience into a very gripping emotional journey on the travails of a young Christian couple battling between their marriage and faith. The faith of the couple is tried, especially when all fingers are pointed to the husband as the cause of their troubles. He must protect his wife who is on the verge of insanity, whilst still managing to keep his faith.

The filmmaker whose previous works include ‘The Visit’ and ‘Picture Perfect’ also said her latest movie raises viewers’ enthusiasm and expectations to a rewarding high-quality offering.

The movie’s compelling storyline, storytelling and believable acting by the lead Blossom Chukwujekwu and Enado Odigie make for a refreshing watch.

Game of Thrones petition: over 700, 000 fans demand season 8 remake

Over 700, 000 fans of the popular television show, ‘Game of Thrones’ have called for a remake of what they termed “a disappointing last season”.

Area News reports that the fans are signing a change.org petition titled ‘Remake Game of Thrones Season 8 with competent writers’.

The petition had garnered 736, 080 signatures at the time of this report on Friday, and was gaining more supporters by the second.

The petition read, “David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have proven themselves to be woefully incompetent writers when they have no, source material to fall back on. This series deserves a final season that makes sense.”

HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones’, which was adapted from George R.R. Martin’s ‘A song of fire and ice’, started outpacing the series of novels in season six.

After the show was on hiatus for all of 2018, the premiere of season eight in April was the most-watched one-day event in HBO’s more than four-decade history.

A lot of fans have described the season as underwhelming and a poor finale to a great show. Among the numerous issues, fans complained about the poorly lit ‘Battle of Winterfell’ in episode three.

They also complained about the inconsistent storylines, poor character arcs and were outraged when the otherwise carefully shot series accidentally left a paper coffee cup in episode four.

HBO acknowledged that the presence of the disposable cup in the scene was a mistake, and later edited it out of the episode.

In the penultimate episode of the series, which aired May 12, Daenerys executed Lord Varys before wiping out King’s Landing and most of its population, even after the bells of surrender sounded.

Area News reports that many thought the massacre was completely out-of-character for Daenerys — or at the very least needed more of a build-up.

‘Game of Thrones’ has had an average of 43 million viewers per episode which is expected to rise as the final episode airs on Sunday.

Popular Nigerian singer, songwriter and Record producer, Davido Adeleke a.k.a Davido is celebrating his daughters’ Imade and Hailey as they turned four and two years old respectively.

The songwriter earlier threw an elaborate birthday party for his second daughter Hailey in Atlanta, U.S.A

Ariana Grande announced as new face of Givenchy

French fashion house Givenchy on Friday named pop princess Ariana Grande as the face of its fall/winter campaign, calling her “a strong, independent woman of refreshing character and style.”

“A modern muse and the voice of a generation, Ariana has emerged as one of the most influential forces in pop culture today,” Givenchy, which is owned by the luxury goods conglomerate LVMH, said in a statement.

“She naturally embodies the spirit of the Givenchy woman with impertinence, generosity and a lightning wit — all cloaked in a touch of mystery.”

The announcement came one day after the fashion brand teased the reveal, posting to social media a video clip with the silhouette of a woman quickly identified as Grande thanks to her signature high, extra-long ponytail.

“I am so proud to be the new face of Givenchy. It is a house I have forever admired, and to now be part of that family is such an honour,” Grande said of her first campaign for a major luxury house.

“I love this clothing and the confidence and joy it brings to the people wearing it. Not only is the clothing timeless and beautiful, but I’m proud to work with a brand that makes people feel celebrated for who they are and unapologetic about whatever they want to be.”

The 26-year-old Grammy winner’s Givenchy campaign is set for release in July.

In a new teaser published Friday, Givenchy portrays Grande as a modern-day Holly Golightly from the classic film “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” dressing her in the character’s iconic little black dress — a Givenchy number — worn by actress Audrey Hepburn.

Considered the “original brand ambassador,” Hepburn shared a muse-designer relationship with the house’s founder Hubert de Givenchy for decades.

Grande is the second pop idol to announce a collaboration with LVMH Friday after Rihanna said she was teaming up with the French giant to launch her own luxury fashion brand in the spring — making history by becoming the first black woman to head up a house for the firm.
