1. Overview: By using and its partner websites, or by using Area News Content, you are deemed to agree to these terms and conditions of use without qualification.

1.1. Set out below are our terms and conditions for use of Area News;

1.3. To all content distributed by any media monitoring service, whether licensed by Area News or not, when that content can be traced to Area News or its partner websites.

1.4 Agreement: If you do not agree to be bound by these terms and conditions of use, discontinue your use of Area News Content :

1.4.1. By accessing Area News you agree to be bound by these terms and conditions; and

1.4.2. You agree to act in accordance with our terms and conditions regardless of how you access our material.

2. Ownership of copyright: Area News and its partner websites invest heavily in continually building an invaluable archive of original and aggregated content.

2.1. Area News Limited is the proprietor of copyright in all content as it is published on and its partner websites, and will exercise its rights to protect such content subject to these terms and conditions, and pursuant to the Copyright Act 1994.

2.2. Area News Content includes but is not limited to all articles, aggregated content, text, images, graphics, logos, audio, video and other material appearing on the and its partner websites, as well as all applicable copyrights, patents, trademarks, trade secrets, trade names, logos, and other intellectual property rights thereto (“Area News Content”).

2.3. Area News Limited expresses control over all Area News Content by the copyright laws and all other intellectual property laws of Nigeria and the United States, and through all applicable international copyright treaties.

3. General limitation of use: Area News is committed to open access and public interest journalism and therefore uses an ‘invisible paywall system’.

3.1. Area News Content, whether produced by Area News or by any contributor to Area News, is licensed freely to personal and private users :

3.1.1. Personal and private users may read, view, download, circulate, reproduce and distribute Area News content provided that Area News Limited is attributed (where applicable) as the source of the content, and provided the purpose of such use has no commercial purposes or ends.

3.1.2. Area News Content may not be used for any other purpose without the prior written consent of Area News, unless the content is expressly labelled as “creative commons”.

3.2 Commercial use of Area News Content expressly restricted: Area News supports licensed commercial use of its content and introduced the end user licence in 2018.

3.3. Unlicensed commercial use of Area News Content is expressly prohibited by Area News Limited:

3.3.1. Commercial users include companies, organisations, institutions, partnerships, government departments, associations and societies, trusts and other entities, whether registered or unregistered, private or public, and whether for profit or not for profit that use Area News Content in any professional capacity.

3.3.2. ‘Use’ encompasses, but is not limited to, downloading, sharing, e-mailing, direct linking, copying, reading, extracting, scraping, selling content, by employees, workers, agents or automated devices, or anything else what-so-ever that could be reasonably held to violate Area News’ copyright pursuant to applicable copyright law and Area News’ limitations of use.

3.3.3. ‘Use’ encompasses receiving, without an end user licence, any Area News Content from any unlicensed media tracking or monitoring service. Receiving includes in whole or in part, including by link.

3.3.4. Commercial users are invited to obtain end user licences from Area News Limited to legitimise use Area News Content.

3.4. Commercial users can subscribe to professional media tracking for Area News Content by contacting Newsagent;

3.5. Commercial users can enquire about obtaining an end user licence for using Area News Content by e-mailing

4. Media tracking or monitoring of Area News Content is expressly prohibited: Area News does not permit unlicensed redistribution of Area News Content by media monitoring or tracking services.

4.1. All unlicensed harvesting and/or redistribution of Area News Content by media tracking or monitoring services, whether automated, computerised or manual, is expressly prohibited.

4.2. Media tracking or monitoring organisations using or intending on using Area News Content can apply for a redistribution licence by e-mailing

4.3. Subscribers and clients of media tracking or monitoring services which are not expressly licensed to distribute Area News Content are put on notice that receiving unlicensed Area News Content infringes Area News’ copyright.

4.4. Anyone using a third party service to access or monitor Area News’ copyrighted content also requires Area News end user licence. Commercial users who are currently using third party services to monitor Area News can enquire about obtaining an end user licence for using Area News Content by e-mailing
